Florida Certified Radiologic Technologist certificates renew on a biennial cycle. See the summary table above for current renewal fees, CE requirements, and contact information. Florida’s CE requirement of 12 hours per biennium is lower than many states, but includes a mandatory HIV/AIDS course that is unique to Florida and must be completed every renewal period regardless of ARRT CE status.

Florida RT Certificate Renewal Fees

Current renewal fees are shown in the summary table above. Payment must be by certified check or money order made payable to the Florida Department of Health. By submitting renewal fees to Florida DOH, a licensee acknowledges compliance with all requirements for renewal, including continuing education. Review current fees through Florida DOH before submitting your renewal.

Important: A Florida certificate that has been inactive or expired for 10 years or more automatically becomes null and void and may not be reactivated. If you hold a Florida certificate you do not currently use, track its status to avoid permanent loss of the credential.

  • The balance of hours must be classified as technical radiation protection, equipment operation, or similar directly related topics
  • All CE must have been earned in the current renewal cycle

Practical Notes for Florida RT Certificate Renewal

From the field: These notes reflect practical considerations for working RTs renewing a Florida certificate.
  • HIV/AIDS course is mandatory — plan for it. Florida’s HIV/AIDS CE requirement is unique to the state and must be completed every renewal period. It is not satisfied by standard ARRT CE. If you hold multiple state licenses, Florida’s HIV/AIDS requirement is an additional step beyond what most other states require.
  • Florida’s CE requirement is lower than most states. At 12 hours per biennium, Florida’s requirement is easier to meet for travel RTs managing CE across multiple state licenses.
  • ASRT CE is automatically reported to Florida. If you are an ASRT member with current Florida certification, ASRT submits your CE to Florida DOH monthly. Check your CE status with Florida DOH before submitting your renewal to avoid issues.
  • Expired renewal is significantly more expensive. See the summary table above for the difference between active-to-active and expired-to-active fees. Renewing on time is strongly recommended.
  • 10-year rule is a hard cutoff. A Florida certificate inactive or expired for 10 or more years cannot be reactivated under any circumstances. Monitor the status of any Florida certificate you hold, even if you are not currently practicing in the state.
  • Travel RTs: Florida CE is one of the easier states to maintain. With ASRT auto-reporting and a lower CE hour requirement than most states, Florida renewal is relatively straightforward. The HIV/AIDS course is the one unique item to plan for each cycle.
